Events dedicated to Independence Day held in Moldova

Chisinau, 27 August /MOLDPRES/ - The Moldovan top leadership has started the schedule of events occasioned by the Independence Day, with laying of flowers at the Grieving Mother monument at the Eternity Memorial Complex.
Subsequently, the cabinet members, the heads of the state institutions, representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited in Chisinau laid flowers at the Monument to Ruler Stephen the Great from the centre of the capital.
The layings of flowers were followed by a festive ceremony on the occasion of those 32 years since the proclamation of the Republic of Moldova’s Independence, held on the Great National Assembly Square (PMAN).
„Thirty years represents a short time from the historical viewpoint, but long for our country. On this way, we had also success and happiness, as well as disappointments, which united us and made us stronger. Moldova chooses the peace and the European way. We have much work to do, as we want to improve our living standards. To be free in our minds and expression, to have freedom to grow and develop, to be members of the European family, which ensures all these freedoms,’’ President Maia Sandu said at the event.
The agenda of the day includes brass band concerts, given by orchestras from the interior affairs system. During 12:00-16:00, the prime minister, along with other cabinet members will have a meeting with people within the programme, Speaking with Citizens. The event will be held in the yard behind the government building. Also here, citizens will be able to discover what is Moldova proud of at home and abroad, will meet the country’s champions in wrestling, will watch a show of wrestling and will take part in a painting workshop for children.
A show titled, As at Home, by brass bands, folklore bands and ensembles of folk dances will take place on PMAN at 16:00. The JOC National Ballet and other folklore bands, orchestras, soloists will present the musical and choreographic show, Moldoveneasca, at 18:00.
The cultural and artistic events dedicated to the 32 years of independence will continue at 19:30 with a concert titled, Me at Home, given by artists from the Diaspora.
At 21:30, the National Folk Music Orchestra, The Fiddlers, will give a concert and the holiday will culminate with the great dance, When Moldovans Gather.
Also, events dedicated to the Independence Day are organized in all Moldova’s settlements today.
