Moldovan PM on visit to Ungheni district

Chisinau, 28 August /MOLDPRES/ - A visit to the Ungheni city by Prime Minister Dorin Recean has started with the participation in the inauguration of the Ungheni-based Tourist Information Centre, constructed from the scratch within the project, Sustainable actions for economic growth through tourism, financed by the European Union. Attending the event were head of the EU Delegation to Moldova Janis Mazeiks, Deputy Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Project (UNDP) Andrea Cuzyova, delegates from twin cities of Romania and Poland, local public authorities and residents of the Ungheni city, the government’s communication and protocol department reported.        

The Tourist Information Centre is in the centre of the city and has an area of 90 square metres and will have the mission to promote the tourist attractions from the settlement and the entire Ungheni district.

„I am happy that emphases are put correctly: on the regional economic development and enhancement of the citizens’ well-being. I appreciate the support provided by EU in the implementation of projects locally, as well as the contribution of UNDP in encouraging the tourism in villages and cities of the country.  I am sure that this Information Centre will promote the Ungheni municipality, as well as the nearby settlements,’’ PM Dorin Recean said.    

„The European Union has provided seven grants and one of them was in Ungheni. We were set to help the settlements of the country. You have managed this project correctly. This is a sector with potential for the Ungheni region. Moldova has a huge potential for the economic development and the creation of jobs,’’ Head of the EU Delegation to Moldova Janis Mazeiks said.   

„We found this place in the centre of the city, where there is movement, where there are people. We will promote our native values. We think including at the popular craftsmen and at those who visit our city. We placed tourist signs and QR-codes in the city,’’ the Ungheni city’s mayor. Alexandru Ambros, said.     

The prime ministers afterwards visited the Alexandru Boico Street, reconstructed within the programme, EU4Moldova: Focal Regions and the project, Cross-border development of the environmentally friendly transport. The road segment with a length of 700 metres connects the city’s centre with the Youth district, as well as with the Free Economic Zone (FEZ). In the last 60 years, the street has never been capitally repaired. The expenses amounted to 528,000 euros in all, of which 200,000 euros represents a grant on behalf of EU and the rest of the costs are covered from the Ungheni city hall’s funds.      

The single desk of information and providing of services, which encompasses all services provided by the city hall, was launched at the headquarters of the Ungheni city hall. European funds worth 100,000 euros were earmarked for the project’s implementation.    

Also, PM Dorin Recean had a discussion with a group of business people from the district, FEZ residents, with whom he spoke about the facilitation of the access to financing, improvement of the infrastructure, reducing the bureaucracy and promotion of innovation. At the same time, the sides analyzed the challenges faced locally, dealing with the lack of the transport infrastructure and labour force, the need to strengthen the domestic tourism, as well as the imperativeness of the amendments to legislation.   

The PM urged entrepreneurs to submit files on participation in the programmes launched by the cabinet and to extend its business ideas: ‘’The government is resolute to create a friendly environment for the development of enterprises and for this, it creates new opportunities which support the innovation, entrepreneurship and investments.’’      

The prime minister today evening will participate in the festive programme occasioned by the Ungheni city’s day and will give a speech on the Independence Square.
