Chisinau, 7 September /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu on 6 September participated in the Summit of the Three Seas Initiatives, hosted by Romania’s President Klaus Iohannis at the Cotroceni Palace. Moldova was invited to join the Initiative as associated participant, the presidential press service has reported.

The head of state said that this partnership marked an important stage in Moldova’s regional cooperation with the countries of the Central and Eastern Europe, which are situated between the Baltic, Adriatic and Black Seas, members of the Initiatives. Thus, Moldova is ever more connected and has more and more partners with which it cooperates on concrete projects.

„At the high-level event, I talked also about how important is that we closely cooperate, develop the infrastructure connections and enhance the regional energy security, during these times, strongly shaken by Russia’s aggression against Ukraine. Our shield against instability is to be better connected to each other, to make sure that the infrastructure is more secured and that we have access to more energy sources,’’ the Moldovan president noted.

The head of state also said that, during one year and a half, Moldova had managed to significantly reduce the energy dependence on Russia, being backed by partners and friends. ‘’We have diversified the gas supply sources, connected to the European electricity network and we develop the renewable energy. Now, within the Initiative, we will have access to additional funds for developing the infrastructure,’’ the Moldovan president stressed.

Maia Sandu said that Moldova was also developing its transport infrastructure, so that the Moldovan carriers easier reach external markets. ‘’Moldova’s involvement as associated state participant in the Three Seas Initiative shows that we can contribute to the regional cooperation and through joint projects, we will generate economic growth, consolidated security and well-being for the countries of the region,’’ the Moldovan head of state added.
