Moldova condemns organization of so-called ''elections'' in temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine

Chisinau, 8 September /MOLDPRES/ - Moldova does not recognize the organization of the so-called local and regional ‘’elections’’ in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine. The Foreign Affairs and European Integration Ministry (MAEIE) made statements to this effect today.

According to MAEIE, Russia’s attempt to imprint legitimacy to the forcible occupation of the territories of the sovereign state Ukraine is illegal, as it is in full disagreement with the international law and the international treaties to which Russia itself is party.

„Through the organization of the so-called elections, Russia brings a direct affront to the UN Charter and the Helsinki Final Act, deliberately infringing the principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine. Moldova reiterates its firm support for the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, within its internationally recognized borders,’’ MAEIE noted.

Russia initiated the organization of so-called ‘’elections’’ on the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine, scheduled for 10 September.
