Chisinau, 14 Sep. /MOLDPRES/- Mircea Snegur - the man who brought Independence, the Romanian language and the Tricolor. The message was sent by Speaker Igor Grosu, who expressed sincere condolences to the relatives, friends and people of the Republic of Moldova regarding the death of the first head of state, Mircea Snegur.
"The process of gaining independence started with the proclamation of the Romanian language as the state language in 1989, with the democratic elections in 1990 and with the declaration of sovereignty in 1991, the first president of the Republic of Moldova, Mircea Snegur said. This is how we will remember him - the man who brought Independence, the Romanian language and the Tricolor", Grosu said.
The official expressed sincere condolences to the relatives, friends and people of the Republic of Moldova. "September 16 was declared by President Maia Sandu as a day of mourning", Grosu said.
The first president of the Republic of Moldova, Mircea Snegur, died on Wednesday evening at 83 years old.
