Chisinau, 26 Sep. /MOLDPRES/- The Customs Service launched today the implementation project of the New Computerized Transit System (NCTS). It will allow the simplification of customs procedures for economic agents and transporters in the transit process of goods.

Customs Service head Igor Talmazan said that the project is of major importance in the context of meeting the commitments assumed by the Republic of Moldova under the Association Agreement with the EU, joining the Convention on common transit and the Convention on the simplification of formalities in trade in goods.

"Carrying out the NCTS implementation project will ensure the connection of the national electronic system to the Common Communications Network of the European Commission, which will be a significant step in the European customs integration of the Republic of Moldova, being the first alignment to the trans-European information systems. We thank the European partners for the support in the implementation of the system. Digitization of customs procedures is a basic condition and we are glad that in this process we are supported by the business environment, which knows the benefits of digitization", said Igor Talmazan.

For his part, the head of the EU Delegation to Moldova, Ambassador Janis Mazeiks appreciated our country's efforts in the customs field. "After obtaining the status of a candidate country for EU accession, the approval of the new Customs Code cannot be postponed. The NCTS will allow free movement of goods between multiple customs points with certain facilities. Customs transit is essential and of vital interest to the business environment, and the new system will reduce customs procedures and allow faster movement of goods", said Janis Mazeiks.

State Secretary of the Ministry of Finance Olga Golban noted that the implementation of the new system represents a joint effort of the national authorities and European partners. "We thank our partners for their support. The simplification of customs procedures brings more facilities to the business environment. The launch of the system will allow the optimization of resources, so that economic agents in our country intensify relations with the EU", emphasized Olga Golban.

The project cost is over 1 million euros. It is funded by the European Union and implemented by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development.
