Preparations for starting negotiations on accession on agenda of Moldova's governmental commission for European integration

Chisinau, 5 October /MOLDPRES/ - Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Affairs and European Integration Minister Nicu Popescu has participated in a meeting of the governmental commission for European integration, chaired by Prime Minister Dorin Recean. The meeting was dedicated to the preparations for the launch of the negotiations on Moldova’s accession to the European Union, the Foreign Affairs and European Integration Ministry’s (MAEIE) press service has reported.
Deputy PM Nicu Popescu stressed the importance to continue the qualitative carrying out and on term of the relevant actions for the implementation of those nine recommendations formulated by the European Commission, in the context of giving Moldova the status of country candidate for accession to the European Union.
„The progress made by the Moldovan authorities in June 2023 allowed the describing of three recommendations as already fulfilled (electoral sector, civil society, human rights). It is crucial that we maintain the concerned pace, in order to give the European Commission and the EU member states enough arguments for the recommendation and, respectively, the approval, till the end of 2023, of the launch of the negotiations on our country’s accession to EU,’’ the Moldovan official noted.
In the context of the carrying out of nation-wide preparations for accession to EU, Deputy PM Nicu Popescu emphasized the need to systemically make efforts on all those 35 criteria of accession to EU, which is to ensure the gradual improvement of the European Commission’s evaluations, set forth in the annual enlargement packages.
„The national action plan on accession to EU for 2023-2027, as well as the carrying out of the self-evaluation of the compliance of Moldova’s legislation with the EU’s acquis will be at the basis of our efforts of European integration in a medium perspective,’’ Nicu Popescu said.
Also, the participants in the meeting of the governmental commission for European integration and Romania’s former chief negotiator for accession to EU, Vasile Puscas, exchanged opinions.
