Moldovan parliament speaker has meeting with President of Portugal

Chisinau, 30 October /MOLDPRES/ - Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu has had a meeting with President of Portugal Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, on an official visit to Moldova. The discussions were focused on the Moldovan-Portuguese bilateral cooperation, the country’s agenda of reforms and the European integration way of Moldova, the parliament’s communication and public relations department reported.
„The visit by the Portuguese president is a strong and encouraging message for Moldova and our citizens, who are in full process of firmly advancing on the European way,’’ Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu said.
During discussions, Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu referred to the priorities on the parliament’s agenda. ‘’The justice reform, the creation of an attractive environment for investors, strengthening of the law-enforcement institutions stay one of the principal goals,’’ the speaker said.
At the same time, the officials discussed opportunities of boosting the bilateral relations between the parliaments of Moldova and Portugal. ‘’The experience of Portugal would be useful to us in more fields, such as the adjusting of the legislation, renewable energy, education and culture,’’ Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu noted.
The sides also discussed the community of Moldovans from Portugal. ‘’I was happy to hear on behalf of President Sousa only compliments for our people, who are the best ambassadors of Moldova,’’ Igor Grosu stressed.
It is worth mentioning that Moldova is hosting a visit by a president of Portugal for the first time ever.
„I am sure that, after this exchange of visits at the level of presidents, the organization of Moldovan-Portuguese business forums, the signing of partnership agreements, a new stage starts in the bilateral relations and we can rely on the support of Portugal at the meeting of the European Council in Brussels, due in December,’’ Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu added.
