Chisinau, 31 October /MOLDPRES/ - Culture Minister Sergiu Prodan today signed, along with Interior Minister Adrian Efros a joint order on the creation of a platform for the prevention of cases of attempting against monuments. Thus, the Culture Ministry and the Interior Ministry (MAI) commit to cooperate more intensely, in order to preserve and conserve the cultural and historical heritage of Moldova.
According to the Culture Ministry, the platform’s mission is both to prevent the cases of attempting against monuments and call to account the people who attempt against the integrity and authentic look of the monuments. To ensure the efficiency of the platform, the two institutions took more commitments.
Thus, the Culture Ministry, inter alia, will consider and systematize the information on cases of attempting against the monuments through destruction, demolition, degradation or unauthorized intervention on them, will submit to MAI information on cases of attempting against monuments and will notify the criminal prosecution bodies. For its part, MAI will provide the colleagues of the Culture Ministry with support at the examination and systematization of information on cases of attempting against monuments. Among the first joint steps, due to be undertaken, there is the elaboration, based on examinations and investigations carried out, of proposals on the amendment of the normative framework in the field of protection of monuments.
„The protection of the cultural and historical heritage is a priority of the Culture Ministry and, at the same time, a subject of major interest for our entire society. Therefore, I welcome the openness of the Interior Ministry to contribute to the processes of protection of monuments and hindering their destruction,’’ the culture minister said on the occasion of the order’s signing. ‘’This is a common problem, which we can solve only through joint efforts between citizens, local authorities and institutions and the platform set up today must become a key instrument to this end,’’ Sergiu Prodan added.
