Moldovan General Police Inspectorate says two persons from north Moldova deliver to police money received in exchange of votes at general local elections

Chisinau, 1 November /MOLDPRES/ - Two persons from a settlement of north Moldova today voluntarily delivered to the police the financial means received in exchange of votes which were to be given in favour of a political party at the general local elections.
According to the General Police Inspectorate (IGP), the man and a woman came to the police headquarters and said that they had received 1,000 lei (about 50 euros) each on behalf of representatives of a political party to vote in favour of it at the polls.
„The persons say that the they voluntarily came to the police, as they are aware of the illicit character of the deed and ruled to deliver the money, in order not to become subjects of the criminal responsibility,’’ IGP noted.
Under the Criminal Code, the corrupting of voters is punished with fine worth from 37,500 lei to 57,500 lei or with imprisonment from 1 to 5 years, enforced against a private person.
In the context, IGP urges all citizens to express their own will by free vote and observe all measures and restrictions established by the normative acts at the local elections.
