Month of European Film 2023 reaches Moldovan capital for the first time ever

Chisinau, 2 November /MOLDPRES/ - One of the most important cinematographic events from Europe has reached Moldova. Thus, beginning with this year, in November, Moldova joins the project, Month of European Film. The Chisinau city will become one of those over 45 European cities where the audience will be able to watch, on big screens, movies which won or participated in international film festivals, such as Cannes, Berlin or Locarno.   

At a today’s news conference, Culture Minister Sergiu Prodan said that he was happy with the fact that Moldova had joined this programme. ‘’What we want is that the Moldovan cinematography integrates into the European cinematography,’’ the official stressed.   

In the context, the director of the National Cinematography Centre, Valentina Iusuphodjaev, said the mission of the institution she leads was to get Moldova’s cinematography closer to the EU’s one.

According to the European Information Centre in Moldova, among the films due to be presented to the audience from Moldova, there will be the winner from this year of the Palme d’Or award at the Cannes Film Festival, Anatomy of the Fall (France), as well as films which were awarded prizes at the international film festivals from Berlin, Locarno, Sarajevo and Sundance. All films will be screened within the Month of European Film 2023.    

The films will be screened at the Chisinau-based Cineplex Loteanu movie theatre weekly on Fridays and Sundays starting from 3 November 2023. At the same time, the other events are scheduled to be held at the headquarters of information centre of the European Union, Europe Café. The entrance to all screenings is for free.      

The Month of European Film 2023 project is carried out at an initiative by the National Cinematography Centre of Moldova, in partnership with the project, Strategic communication and support for mass media in Moldova, and Europe Café, with the European Union’s financial support.
