Leader of Moldova's Action and Solidarity Party thanks citizens for exemplary participation

Chisinau, 5 November /MOLDPRES/ - The general local elections held today are quite important, as we elect the mayors and councilors; yet, at the same time, they are of special significance, as they take place in a geopolitical context dealing with the European integration. This vote was not only for mayors and for councilors, but also was a pro-European vote. We thank the citizens for the exemplary participation in the ballot. The leader of the Action and Solidarity Party (PAS), Igor Grosu, today evening made statements to this effect following the closing of the polling stations.        

„I thank the Chisinau residents, who exemplarily mobilized, understood how big the stake is, that the city needs a European mayor, that the latter must be returned to the pro-European parties and we hope to see this fact as soon as possible through the results presented by the Central Electoral Commission (CEC). This time as well, the Moldovans proved that they had not let themselves intimidated, the wisdom prevailed and just as it occurred in 2020 and in 2021, gave a protest voting against the crime rings,’’ Igor Grosu said.     

The PAS leader also said that the citizens were expecting the results of the elections. ''I understand and I appreciate every effort which you have made, but I will have one more request to the voters from Moldova. Yes, in some settlements, the things will be settled in the first round of voting; yet, please, let us prepare to make one more step, so that in these two weeks, we mobilize and give pro-European mayors to the country, our villages and cities. The stake is too big, as we do not talk only about mayors and councilors, but we speak about our pro-European perspective and here each vote matters,’’ the PAS leader stressed.      

General local elections were held in Moldova today. According to CEC’s data, 1,147,393 voters out of those 2,758,810 recorded in lists came to vote till 21:00.
