Works for rehabilitation of road making connection to border with Romania start in Moldova

Chisinau, 9 November /MOLDPRES/ - The State Administration of Roads (ASD) today informed about the starting of the works for the rehabilitation of the road R16.1 R16 – border with Romania km 0.00 – 1.163.

This segment is of strategic importance, as it leads to the road bridge which crosses the Prut river nearby the Sculeni border crossing point (PTF) and will facilitate the easing of the transport, as well as the movement in conditions of safety and comfort, ASD said.   

According to the quoted source, the following works are planned within this project: rehabilitation of a road segment with a length of 1.163 km of the III technical category, with two lanes with a width of 3.5 metres each; arrangement of sidewalks on an area of 1,541 square metres; arrangement of accesses to yards (5 ways), on an area of about 84 square metres; setting a metal parapet with a length of 257 metres; setting of 104 road signs and 30 guidance pillars; putting the marking on an area of 1,961 squares metres; replacement of electricity networks, etc.    

The works will be carried out by the Nouconst Limited company and have a contractual value of about 29.3 million lei (1.46 million euros), allocated from the Road Fund’s means. The term of the carrying out of the works is till late August 2024.  

About 763,000 touring cars, 297,000 trucks and 46,000 coaches, as well as about 3.8 million passengers crossed the Sculeni border crossing point in 2022. ‘’This figure shows the importance and the intense use of this road, highlighting the need of rehabilitation, in order to ensure the continuous safety and efficiency of the transport,’’ ASD said.
