Romanian physician receives title of Doctor Honoris Causa of Chisinau-based Medical University

Chisinau, 27 November /MOLDPRES/ - The Senate of the Nicolae Testemitanu State University of Medicine and Pharmacy (USMF) has awarded the title of Doctor Honoris Causa to a merited professor, Dan Lucian Dumitrascu, of the Iuliu Hatieganu University of Medicine and Pharmacy (UMF) from Cluj-Napoca, Romania.
At the beginning of the ceremony, USMF Rector Emil Ceban read a Laudatio, noting that the honorific title had been awarded to professor Dan Lucian Dumitrascu for his considerable and constant contribution to the development of the cooperation relations between the Nicolae Testemitanu USMF and the UMF Iuliu Hatieganu. ‘’This partnership was carried out through the training and qualification of scientific and didactic staff of our university and of the medical employees from the fields of gastroenterology and hepatology for the health system of Moldova, substantial contribution to the flourishing of the higher medical education, medical sciences and of the society on the whole. Due to his efforts, the process of implementation of the European standards in the country’s services of gastroenterology and hepatology were boosted; as a result, in 2022, the Society of Gastroenterology and Hepatology became member of the United European Gastroenterology,’’ the rector said.
For his part, Dan Lucian Dumitrascu expressed happiness for having seen again more friends and colleagues from Nicolae Testemitanu USMF, reiterating his willingness to continue the cooperation in the long run. The professor presented some data of his biography, as well as the most important achievements in medicine nationally and internationally.
Professor Dan Lucian Dumitrascu was born in Cluj-Napoca, Romania, on 5 February 1957. He is titular member of the Academy of Medical Sciences of Romania, president of the European Association for Gastroenterology, Endoscopy and Nutrition since 2020, honorary president of the Romanian Society of Neurogastroenterology, head of the Committee of the European Union’s National Societies of Gastroenterology, coordinator of the Gaucher Disease in Romania.
