Government approves Memorandum of Understanding on interconnection of natural gas and electricity networks in Moldova, Romania

Chisinau, Feb. 7 /MOLDPRES/- The cabinet has approved a Memorandum of Understanding between the Moldovan and Romanian governments on carrying out the projects for the interconnection of the natural gas and electricity networks in the two states, the government's communication department has reported.
The document was signed on 11 December 2023. It aims to create the necessary framework for energy cooperation between Chisinau and Bucharest, consider possible solutions and carry out projects for long-term energy exchange, as well as facilitate the exchange of technical knowledge, skills and expertise.
The memorandum sets out the implementation of specific actions on the possibility to increase the natural gas transport capacity, as well as to expand Iasi-Ungheni-Chisinau gas pipeline by late 2031. It sees the implementation of projects of strategic importance, including the Overhead Power Line (LEA) with a nominal voltage of 400 kV Suceava - Balti.
