Moldova to further benefit from EU's support in development of agricultural sector, rural communities

Chisinau, 16 May /MOLDPRES/ - Deputy Prime Minister, Agriculture and Food Industry Minister Vladimir Bolea in Rome, Italy, has had a meeting with the representative of the European Union at the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations, Alexandra Valkenburg and Head of the Unit for Sustainable Agri-Food Systems and Fisheries at the European Commission’s Directorate General for International Partnerships Leonard Mizzi. The discussions were focused on more strategic subjects for the development of the agriculture and rural zones from Moldova.
One of the main subjects of the discussion was the development of the Moldovan villages – a sector where the European Union has enough policies. In the context, the sides tackled aspects regarding the Agricultural Chambers and their role in backing the farmers – a successful practice in more EU member states.
Also, a subject of major interest was the promotion of the Moldovan fruits on foreign markets, including in the EU states. The exports of apples, plums, grapes, sweet cherries and strawberries were discussed in detail.
The European Union’s representatives reiterated their support for Moldova in all these fields, stressing the EU’s continuous commitment for the support and development of the agricultural sector from Moldova.
The 34th session of FAO’s Regional Conference for Europe is held in Rome. Deputy PM, Agriculture and Food Industry Minister Vladimir Bolea was elected president of the session and will lead all works of the conference till 17 May.
