Strasbourg, 17 May /MOLDPRES/ - The Moldovan diplomacy head, Mihai Popsoi, has participated in the 133rd session of the Council of Europe’s Committee of Ministers. The meeting took place in Strasbourg, France, under the aegis of the presidency of Liechtenstein and brought together the ambassadors of those 46 member states of the Council of Europe and states observers.
The ministerial session marked the celebration of the 75th anniversary of the Council of Europe’s foundation and reconfirmed the decisions of the summit of the heads of state in Reykjavik, as well as the international liability of Russia for the crime of aggression against Ukraine. The first step is the establishment of the Register of Damage.
In his speech, Minister Popsoi highlighted the efficient cooperation of Moldova with the Council of Europe and the support provided through its structures, such as: European Court of Human Rights and the Venice Commission. During years, the Council of Europe has become an etalon of standards for democracy, rule of law state and respect for the human rights.
„I also referred to Moldova’s accession to the European Union, which is our country’s priority. We rely on the support of the EU member states, for our country to successfully finish the stage of negotiation.
I expressed my opinion on the challenges faced by Moldova and the situation in the Transnistrian region.
Our country is firmly determined to counteract any external attempt to disturb and destabilize the democracy and undermine the society’s resilience through diverse hybrid actions. We are aware that the forthcoming presidential elections, the constitutional referendum, as well as the parliamentary elections due next year will be targeted. Therefore, we make constant efforts to combat the Russian propaganda, meant to sow discord and undermine the confidence.
In the end of the meeting, the participants adopted the draft Framework Convention of the Council of Europe on artificial intelligence, human rights, democracy and rule of law and the presidency of the CoE’s Committee of Ministers, held by Liechtenstein, was transmitted to Lithuania,’’ the Moldovan official said.
