Contract for design and execution of Ungheni bridge over Prut River to be signed in June

Chisinau, May 18 /MOLDPRES/- Tender on design contract for Ungheni bridge over the Prut River is in final stage, and winner will be nominated by the end of this month, followed by the signing of the design and construction contract in June. Irinel Ionel Scrioșteanu, State Secretary of the Romanian Ministry of Transport made the statement. The issue was discussed in Ungheni, at a meeting of the joint Romanian-Moldovan commission set up to build the bridge.
The bridge over the Prut at Ungheni is part of the A8 motorway project. It will also have a border crossing point and will interconnect the road infrastructures between both countries: Târgu Mureș - Iași - Ungheni - state border motorway (on the territory of Romania) and the R1 national road Chisinau - Ungheni - border with Romania (on the territory of the Republic of Moldova).
The bridge will be 260 metres long. The duration of the contract will be 24 months, of which 6 months for the design and 18 months for the execution, and the source of financing is provided by European funds, amounting to more than 156 million Romanian lei, excluding VAT, through the CEF Europe Interconnection Facility.
The authorities are examining the possibility of building a single customs point on Romanian territory, where the authorities of both countries can operate.
