Chisinau, July 5 /MOLDPRES/- A system of photovoltaic panels worth about 103, 6 thousand dollars has been installed on the roof of the Presidency. The purchase was made with the support of external partners, and the inauguration was attended by Energy Minister Victor Parlicov.
Head of the President's Office Adrian Băluțel said that today's event has two meanings, one very practical and the other symbolic.
"From the first day of mandate and throughout four years, President Maia Sandu and the presidential administration have been working to reduce administrative costs. As reducing administrative costs means saving public money and more resources that can remain for the benefit of citizens. These solar panels will in the first stage reduce electricity consumption at the Presidency by up to 15%. Later on, this project is to be expanded and the savings on the bill will be up to 45%. It will be a significant amount that will remain in the state budget. The symbolic significance is that thanks to the support of the partners and the active policies of the Ministry of Energy, an attempt is being made to popularize the saving of electricity consumption and the adoption of eco measures. We hope that this project of the Presidency will encourage more public institutions, municipalities, administrations, entrepreneurs to adopt energy efficiency measures", said Balluțel.
Energy Minister Victor Parlicov encouraged households and business to invest in green energy and noted that our country has set the target of reaching 30% green energy by 2030. The official said that in the Republic of Moldova the costs per square meter are twice as high as in EU countries, and the state encourages all projects aimed at reducing dependence on imported electricity.
The head of the USAID Mission to Moldova, Jeff Bryan, who attended the event, said that the example of the Presidency should be followed by other public institutions. He added that investments in energy are investments in the country's democratic future.
He added that recently, with the support of USAID, 22 economic agents specialized in tourism and 36 agricultural enterprises have benefited from USAID support to find green energy solutions.
