Exhibition in memory of victims of Stalinist deportations opened in Parliament

Chisinau, July 5 /MOLDPRES/- An exhibition in memory of the victims of Stalinist deportations was inaugurated at the Parliament. The exhibits include archival documents and objects belonging to Valentina Ghețu, an MP born in Siberia into a family of deportees.
The exhibition contains copies of photographs and documents from the National Archives Agency's collections. They refer to the life stories of several deported people who lived in different parts of the country, were of different nationalities and occupied different social positions.
Present at the exhibition, MP Valentina Ghețu mentioned that her mother and grandparents were deported to Siberia on the night of July 5-6, 1949.
On the night of July 5-6, 1949, the Soviet regime deported tens of thousands of people, including women, children and the elderly to Siberia to concentration camps and confiscated their property. Tomorrow, July 6, Moldova marks the Day of Remembrance for Victims of Stalinism and is a day of national mourning.
