Prime Minister meets World Bank Vice-President for Europe and Central Asia

Chisinau, July 9 /MOLDPRES/-  World Bank will further support financially, technically and the necessary expertise the implementation of projects to improve life quality in Moldova. World Bank Vice President for Europe and Central Asia Antonella Bassani made the statement at a meeting with Prime Minister Dorin Recean, the government's communication department has reported.

Recean thanked the official for the solid partnership between the financial institution and Moldova, which helps the authorities carry out the agenda of reforms and projects with direct impact on all the inhabitants of the country.

Antonella Bassani congratulated Chisinau authorities on the start of European integration negotiations, noting that this path will offer multiple opportunities, and the World Bank will help harness them. "We will offer you our full support: financial, technical and expertise to help you in the priority areas," the official said.

The premier said that the authorities are currently focused on measures to maintain economic growth and increase investors' confidence in the Moldovan economy. The actions to ensure a friendly and safe business environment, focusing on the justice reform were approached.

In this context, Antonella Bassani emphasized the role of the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency - MIGA, part of the World Bank Group. The investment guarantee instruments will provide additional security for investors and will ensure the attraction of innovative projects in the economy, in the context of the approaching Russian aggression in Ukraine. The development of the capital market in the Republic of Moldova was also discussed, which will increase the attractiveness of the country for foreign investors, as well as contribute to strengthening the resilience of the financial system.

The World Bank's current portfolio of financial assistance to the Republic of Moldova amounts to 2.55 billion dollars. The list of ongoing projects aims to improve the quality of education and health services, increase the competitiveness of agriculture, energy interconnection with Romania, modernization of government services, support to small and medium-sized enterprises, more efficient land registration and evaluation, access to water and sanitation.
