Deputy Prime Minister: Success in fruit sector means new jobs, development opportunities and better future

Chisinau, July 15 /MOLDPRES/- Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Vladimir Bolea met with representatives of the fruit sector, exhibitors of the 6th edition of Fruit Day, held in Coșernița, Criuleni. The discussions were about the prospects for economic and agricultural development of the Republic of Moldova.

A central issue was the need for access to favorable and long-term financing so that fruit growers can invest in modern technologies and develop their businesses. Another important topic discussed was the management of water resources and the implementation of irrigation projects to increase productivity and ensure crop sustainability.

Bolea emphasized some significant data from the fruit sector of the Republic of Moldova, such as export prices for fruit and the expansion of exports.

According to the Deputy Prime Minister, in 2023, the prices at which farmers sold their fruit abroad increased slightly. The main types of exported fruits included cherries, plums, apricots, strawberries, apples, peaches and raspberries. "Moldovan fruit reached 95 countries in 2023. Exports have expanded in recent years, with over 30 new destinations. The main market remains the European Union market, but Moldova also successfully exports to Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates," he said.

The exhibition was organized by Moldova Fruct Association with the support of USAID Rural Competitiveness and Resilience Activity and the Investment Agency. The event was hosted by the modern orchard of VelFruct-Prim company in Coșernița, Criuleni, representing a suitable platform to address trends in the horticultural sector, innovations in equipment and techniques, solutions to increase productivity and competitiveness, as well as the creation of new business opportunities and partnerships.
