Moldovan farmers to benefit from consignment of Japanese technology

Chisinau, 25 July /MOLDPRES/ - A consignment of Japanese agricultural technology within the project, Modernization of Agriculture Machines and Equipment (MAME),  today was delivered to farmers from Moldova.   

It is about 33 Kubota M6-131 tractors, procured within the MAME project. The tractors will be delivered to beneficiaries at a competitive price, under contracts on sale and purchase, in installments.    

„This is new, advanced technology, which will allow our farmers modernize, implement efficient practices for soil, for the productivity of works and increasing the harvest,’’ Deputy Prime Minister, Agriculture and Food Industry Minister Vladimir Bolea said.   

The project, Modernization of Agriculture Machines and Equipment, is meant for farmers (small- and medium-sized farms) who want to make investments, in order to improve the agricultural productivity through agricultural machines and post-harvesting equipment. The Japanese government provided a preferential loan worth about 19 million dollars through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). These means is used for MAME.   

The MAME project is meant to strengthen the Japanese assistance provided to Moldova through JICA since 1997 and the financing programmes and official assistance for development.

Attending the event, Ambassador of Japan to Moldova Yoichiro Giro Yamada expressed respect for the farmers of Moldova for their resistance. Stressing the impact of the war from Ukraine and Russia’s aggression, the diplomat said that Japan would continue backing the implementation of the innovating ideas on the promotion and support of the efficient agriculture in Moldova. 

A project titled, Farmers’ Supply with Fertilizers, was launched at the same event. The project’s goal is to support the small and medium-sized farmers hit by the increase in prices for inputs (seeding material, fertilizers, pesticides, etc.) through providing accessible financial solutions at the procurement of phytosanitary products and fertilizers. It includes the distribution of about 2,000 tons of NKP fertilizers at a preferential price.    

Presently, over 40 documents on cooperation are signed between Moldova and Japan, most of them on the providing of financial and technical assistance to Moldova. At the same time, Japan is also one of the principal sources of investments in the automotive industry of Moldova.
