Discover Moldova with #MOLDPRES: Wanderlust magazine describes Moldova as still undiscovered tourist destination of Europe

Moldova in Wanderlust magazine and nominated for Wanderlust Travel Awards

Moldova, a still undiscovered tourist destination of Europe, attracts the international attention through an article of seven pages published in the July edition of the Wanderlust magazine – one of the most prestigious travel magazines from the United Kingdom. Titled, Moldova: toasting to the future, the article explores the country’s cultural and natural wealth, highlighting the impressive underground wine cellars, the historical monasteries and the hospitability of local residents.    

Moreover, Moldova is nominated for the Wanderlust Travel Awards at two categories: The most attractive country of Europe and The most attractive emerging destination. At the same time, the supporters and people fond of travels can vote for Moldova and contribute to the country’s international recognition Wanderlust Travel Awards.   

The Wanderlust magazine, founded in 1993, is available in 70 countries and is known for its high standards of travel journalism. With a potential of 1.8 million online visualizations per month and a circulation of 137,959 copies in one number, Wanderlust gives Moldova an extraordinary opportunity to attract attention to the country as tourist destination.  

The Wanderlust visit to Moldova was facilitated through the Rural Competitiveness and Resilience Activity in Moldova Project of the US. Agency for International Development (USAID), in cooperation of the National Inbound and Domestic Tourism Association of Moldova (ANTRIM), in order to promote Moldova as tourist destination on target markets, with direct flights from Chisinau, with the United Kingdom being one of them. Invited in the context of the only open-aid classical music festival in the Eastern Europe – DescOperă, the two journalists, George Kipouros, editor-in-chief, and Adam Lloyds, commercial director, had a comprehensive experience, discovering the cultural wine and natural wealth of the country. This cooperation allowed presenting Moldova in a friendly light, highlighting its beauty and uniqueness.       

„Moldova, with its underground wine cellars and historical monasteries, is a fascinating destination which is worth being discovered. From the vibrating landscapes of the farm fields up to the warm hospitability of local residents, this country provides an unforgettable experience for any curious traveler,’’  reads a quoted passage from the article, which emphasizes the unique magic of Moldova.     

The article puts emphasis on the authentic and comprehensive experiences which Moldova provides, including visits to the Cricova cellar – the second largest one in the world and the Curchi and Hancu monasteries. Also, the article mentions the local efforts of cultural revival, such as the Rustic Art, a traditional centre of weaving, which promotes the Moldovan cultural identity.  

This is the second greatest media success of Moldova from this year, who participated, for the first time ever, also in the competition, 2024 Destination of the Year, from Romania.

For the first time ever, the list of finalist destinations included tourist points from Moldova  

The 2024 Destination of the Year is the most important project on the promotion of tourism from Romania. Moldova participated in this prestigious competition for the first time ever. Thus, till last May, people interested were able to vote the favourite destinations on www.destinatiaanului.ro. More than 120 tourist destinations of Romania and Moldova competed in 13 categories.    

Moldova was present with the following destinations:  

Cities which inspire: Chisinau – tourist capital of Moldova;

Regions with tradition and history: Soroca District;

Eco-tourist regions: Nature Reserve the Beach Tree Region, Ungheni district;  Ungheni;

Tale village: Valeni village, Cahul district;  

Cultural and educative attractions: Țipova-Saharna Museum Complex, Rezina district and Capriana Monastery, Straseni district;  

Epic accommodations – boutique: Boarding house La Tudora, Stefan Voda district.    

Moldova got two prizes: Valeni Village, Cahul district – Special Prize Destination of the Year in Moldova; Lower Prut Meadow – the best promotion.
