Victoria Belous sworn in office of finance minister of Moldova

Chisinau, 31 July /MOLDPRES/ - Victoria Belous is the new Finance Minister, She was sworn in office in the presence of President Maia Sandu and Prime Minister Dorin Recean.  

The ceremony started with the singing of Moldova’s National Anthem.   

President Maia Sandu thanked Victoria Belous for having accepted the proposal to be appointed to the office of finance minister, noting that this is an important portfolio and the society has ‘’has great expectations.’’

„I thank Petru Rotaru for the intense work and for all progress made on the last period, for that fact that we managed to finance important programmes, even when the economy did not manage to generate all resources we need for development. Mrs. Minister, I congratulate you and thank you for having accepted this challenge. This is a difficult portfolio. We have great expectations both in terms of maintaining all expenses which are important for the citizens, and in terms of transformation, especially given that the Finance Ministry leads more working groups in the process of negotiations with the European Union.  We have to do significant transformations, in order to improve the quality of things. Also, because we are already in August and many our fellow countrymen return home, I want to ask you to take care that the employees of the Customs Service will meet all our fellow countrymen with respect and everybody will be treated with correctness. You come from the Fiscal Service and you know that we have to work there in continuation. A strong economy is only when we have more strong economic agents and this means a proper business environment and the interaction  of these business people with the Fiscal Service, with the Customs Service are important elements,’’ Maia Sandu said.  

The Moldovan president voiced hope that the budget revenues would increase, ‘’as we have many things to do for the benefit of Moldova’s citizens.’’

Prime Minister Dorin Recean thanked Petru Rotaru for the activity carried out at the Ministry and wished Victoria Belous success in the new position. ‘’ The Finance Ministry, along with the Justice Ministry are the most demanded two ministries and Petru Rotaru put a good beginning of changes. Mrs. Minister, you are to take over this important portfolio. We have to increase the economy; we have to increase the incomes of the citizens and through this - the fiscal incomes of the government. We have to quite judiciously finance the programmes on economic development, as well as the programmes on social, medical development. Beyond this, we have to provide good public services both at the State Fiscal Service and at the Customs Service. Also, the state’s treasury is quite important and how we manage the money. We wish all of us, the cabinet members, discipline and tenacity, in order to carry out the government’s programme on European integration,’’ the prime minister said.     

Victoria Belous was appointed to the office of finance minister, after Petru Rotaru had ended his mandate and was today appointed by the parliament as deputy governor of the National Bank of Moldova.  Victoria Belous so far has acted as deputy head of the State Fiscal Service.
