Chisinau, Aug 1 /MOLDPRES/- Russian Foreign Ministry has criticized Chisinau authorities' decision to declare an employee of the Russian Embassy in Moldova as an undesirable person on the territory of the country.

According to a press release issued by the Russian authorities, the decision to expel an employee of the embassy was taken "without any clear justification."

"We regard this unfriendly step as another manifestation of the aggressive anti-Russian course of the current Moldovan leadership, which irresponsibly destroys Russian-Moldovan ties, which have deep historical roots," the Russian foreign ministry said.

The institution added that in the current situation, "the Russian side reserves the right to give an appropriate response to the hostile and unjustified decision of the Moldovan authorities against the employee of the Russian Embassy."

An employee of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Chisinau has been declared an undesirable person on the territory of the Republic of Moldova. An information note to this effect was handed today to Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Chisinau Oleg Vasnetsov, who was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

According to the ministry, "the decision of the Moldovan authorities was taken as a result of specific activities undertaken, as a result of which information and evidence were obtained that the Russian diplomat was carrying out on the territory of the Republic of Moldova activities incompatible with diplomatic status".

In this context, the Russian Embassy employee is to leave the Republic of Moldova.

A Parliament official and a border policeman were detained yesterday on suspicion of treason and conspiracy against the Republic of Moldova. Prosecutors have established that they were communicating with an employee of an embassy in Chisinau to whom they were providing information "to be used against the interests of the Republic of Moldova".
