Chisinau, Aug 15 /MOLDPRES/- Central Electoral Commission /CEC/ reminds voters from abroad that they can pre-register until 6 September to participate in the republican constitutional referendum and presidential elections of 20 October and announces that about 400 people have registered for postal voting so far.
According to CEC, the need for pre-registration consists in establishing the estimated number of voters who express their intention to vote at one of the polling stations organized abroad. This is one of the three criteria established by the electoral law, which, together with the information on the dynamics of voter turnout in the last three national elections and the data provided by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the number and location of Moldovan citizens abroad, will be the basis for the decision to organize polling stations abroad.
So far, more than 3,600 people have pre-registered.
At the same time, CEC members recall that in the elections of October 20, 2024, voters in the USA, Canada, Iceland, Finland, Sweden and Norway may apply for postal voting, the pre-registration is mandatory. To date, around 400 people have registered for postal voting. Most applications are from the USA - over 200 and Canada - over 100.
