Use of mobile phones to be banned during classes in Moldova in new academic year 2024-2025

Chisinau, 30 August /MOLDPRES/ - The use of mobile phones will be banned during classes, not also in breaks during the 2024-2025 academic year, according to Education and Research Minister Dan Perciun. The minister made statements to this effect at a today’s news conference.      

„The regulation of the use of mobile phones in schools is introduced for the pupils to be focused exclusively on the subject matter taught at classes. During the classes, the mobile phones will be stored in one place in classroom, from which they will be able to be taken during brakes,’’ Dan Perciun said.   

According to the minister, Moldova is not a pioneer in such decisions. The official stressed that there were such practices in more countries, and not only in the European Union.

The Education and Research Ministry’s decision comes after more opinion polls and consultations with schools’ managers, teachers, parents and pupils, who displayed support for the carrying out of classes without mobile phones.
