Moldovan lawmakers stand silent for one minute in memory of Ukrainians killed in war

Chisinau, 4 September /MOLDPRES/ - The MPs who today brought together at a special meeting, in which Prime Minister of Poland Donald Tusk participates,  stood silent for one minute in the memory of the Ukrainians dead in the wake of the latest Russian attacks.   

Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu thanked the Polish official for the support provided to Moldova, as well as to the Ukrainian neighbours, who have been fighting for their freedom during two years.       

„Just yesterday, the Russian forces launched a massive attack with ballistic missiles on the Poltava region. And the last figures show that 51 Ukrainians were killed and 270 ones were wounded. Another attacks today morning killed seven Ukrainians in the Lviv region. We convey sincere condolences to the grieving families and reiterate our unconditional support for Ukraine. For this reason, dear guests, I come up with a request to stand silent for one minute in the memory of all those who were killed in this unjust war,’’ Grosu said.       

Prime Minister of Poland Donald Tusk was met with applauses in parliament. He reiterated the support for the Ukrainian people and urged the citizens of Moldova to choose wisely at the referendum due this autumn. He specified that nobody can decide the country’s fate for the Moldovans.

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk today pays a visit to Chisinau. The Polish official was met by Prime Minister Dorin Recean at the government’s headquarters at an official ceremony. The PM of Poland also had meetings with President Maia Sandu and Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu.  

Donald Tusk is an influential person in the European Union’s institutions, being president of the European Council during five years. In 2014, Donald Tusk was elected to the position of president of the European Council and in 2017 he was re-elected for the second mandate of two years and a half.
