Chisinau, 15 September /MOLDPRES/ - The torrential rains will continue also today and on 16 September. The State Hydrometeorological Service (SHS) has issued an Orange Code of atmospheric instability.
The warning is valid till 16 September at 5:00.
„On the aforementioned time interval, thunderstorm rains are expected, periodically torrential rains (water quantities of 50-60 litres/square metre). The wind will have gustings of up to 15-20 metres/second,’’ reads the SHS press release.
SHS warns that, in the context of the rains recorded on 14 September and of the ones forecast, the risk of floods is continuously growing and can intensify in some areas.
People are advised to avoid trips to shelter themselves in buildings or cars far from electric wires and trees; to avoid open areas and to stay far from high structures; not to touch wires which fell down.
Also, to avoid accidents, it is recommended to disconnect electric apparatus in dwellings. Parents are urged to supervise their children.
The Interior Ministry’s (MAI) General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU) urges people who remained blocked on roads to urgently inform about the situation at the 112 Service and attentively listen to authorities’ urges, so that specialized teams can quickly intervene.
In conditions of heavy rainfall, the authorities recommend the ceasing of all mass public activities, in order to avoid people’s exposing to weather risks.
In continuation, all specialized services for the management of the situation are on alert and work to remove the consequences of the heavy precipitation.
According to SHS, the Orange Code is issued when the weather conditions pose real danger. Dangerous phenomena, with high intensity, are forecast (storm, heavy rains, thunderstorm, hail, heat, frost, risk of floods, etc.), which can negatively influence the social and economic activities and can cause material damages and human victims.
