Chisinau, 26 September /MOLDPRES/ - The European Day of Languages today was launched in Moldova through a string of cultural events in bookshops and museums, meant to promote the knowledge of languages. ‘’Through the Romanian language, Moldova is already part of Europe,’’ Romania’s Ambassador to Moldova Cristian-Leon Turcanu has said at the official opening of the European Day of Languages.

Attending the event on the launch of the European Day of Languages, Romanian Ambassador to Moldova Cristian-Leon Turcanu stressed that Romania was part of the vast programme carried out in Moldova. ‘’Through the Romania language, Moldova is already part of Europe. We share not only a language, traditions, but also an entire culture and this will be proved this autumn through comprehensive joint cultural manifestations. What we should everybody understand is that Europe is an area of tolerance and diversity and this can be noticed through culture. All people interested are invited to know as many as possible things about other European cultures, to know what unites us everybody in this great European family,’’ the Romanian ambassador also said.

„Events of special concentration on square metre take place in Moldova this autumn and all these events are marked by a dear European word. For us, just as for any other society, people, the language is the pillar of the heritage. For us, the Romanian language is already part of the European languages celebrated today; it is the pillar of our identity, heritage; it is our motherland. The knowledge of languages means the resilience of the societies and we do our utmost, so that the possibility is ensured to know both the Romanian language as pillar of our identity and all European, world languages,’’ Sergiu Prodan said.

The European day of Languages has the goal to draw the public’s attention to the great linguistic variety of Europe, to promote the cultural heritage and linguistic diversity, to encourage people of any age to study foreign languages, as well as to promote the professions dealing with the linguistic sector, the European Union’s official website notes.
