Chisinau, 12 Sep. /MOLDPRES/- A large national sanitation event, with the participation of all citizens who are not indifferent to the state of the environment, will take place on September 16, as part of the World Cleanup Day 2023 campaign. State Secretary of the Ministry of Environment Grigore Stratulat made the statement today.
"The national campaign of the Ministry of Environment and the event on September 16 are aimed at raising awareness of the efforts of the Republic of Moldova to align with the objectives set by the EU: zero pollution, circular economy, integrated waste management and promotion of waste prevention through reducing excessive consumption in favor of waste recycling," the official said.
This year, more attention will be paid to the sanitation of small rivers. However, the ministry pays special attention to the state of small rivers and the importance of keeping the banks clean.
According to Stratulat, World Cleanup Day is not only a sanitation activity, but also a tool to catalyze change, with participating countries aiming to involve 5% of the population to accelerate the transition process to circular economy and sustainable development. The initiator and organizer of this worldwide campaign is "Let's Do It, World" organization.
The event is marked annually on the third Saturday of September. It is one of the world's largest civic actions, bringing together millions of volunteers, governments and organizations from 191 countries, who stand in solidarity to address global environmental challenges and build a sustainable future.
