Chisinau, Aug 1 /MOLDPRES/- Moscow's "unfriendly" language towards Chisinau authorities is a manifestation of envy and frustration, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs Mihai Popșoi believes. In an interview with MOLDPRES agency, the official said that the Russian diplomatic leadership "has lost all contact with diplomacy."
Asked by the agency to explain the Kremlin's rhetoric towards Chisinau authorities, Mihai Popșoi said that Russia cannot accept that a small country like Moldova should develop and progress. "There is a great deal of frustration and envy, and even the leaders of Russian diplomacy lost all contact with diplomacy a long time ago. The envy lies in the fact that the Republic of Moldova - a small country with modest resources - is succeeding, it is a country that is making progress. Even those who criticize us, attack us with unfriendly language, understand that the prosperous, peaceful future is only in the European family and they look with envy at the rise of the Republic of Moldova, the progress we are making, including in strengthening democratic institutions," said Popșoi.
At the same time, he emphasized that the Republic of Moldova manages to face Russian propaganda thanks to the political will to join the European community. "The Republic of Moldova is succeeding thanks to its ambition to be part of the great European family, thanks to the consolidation of society and the ability to withstand the avalanche of propaganda, fake news, insinuations, harsh attacks from Kremlin and other institutions of the Russian Federation on the Republic of Moldova, hybrid attacks, cyber attacks. We know what we have to do, we know where our national interests lie, we know how to defend them, but their frustrations that they vent daily in the public space leave us cold," he said.
Last year, the Republic of Moldova strengthened its alignment with EU restrictive measures, including those targeting the Russian Federation. As a result, our country increased its rate of alignment from 64% in 2022 to 88% in 2023.
