Romanian Ambassador to Moldova says votes for strong Romania in Europe with peace, prosperity, for Moldova's European future

Chisinau, 9 June /MOLDPRES/ - Ambassador of Romania to Moldova Cristian-Leon Turcanu today expressed his right to vote at the European parliamentary elections, held on 6-9 June 2024.  

The official stressed that he had voted at one of the polling stations opened in Chisinau.  

„I voted in Chisinau for a strong Romania in a Europe with peace and prosperity and for the European future of Moldova,’’ Cristian-Leon Turcanu said.   

Fifty two polling stations are organized in Moldova for the Romanian citizens who want to exercise their right to vote. Twenty eight out of these polling stations are opened in the central region, 17 – in the northern one and 7 polling stations – in the southern region.   

According to Romania’s Embassy in Moldova, in the Chisinau municipality, the electors will be able to vote at one of those 13 polling stations opened. „No polling stations will be organized at the headquarters of Romania’s Embassy or at the one of the Mihai Eminescu Romanian Cultural Institute. The closest polling stations to these locations are the Gheorghe Asachi Lyceum – 3 polling stations, Spiru Haret Lyceum – 3 polling stations, Moldovan State University – 2 polling stations and the Satiricus Theatre – one polling station,’’ the Romanian Embassy in Chisinau said.     

Thus, the Romanian citizens with right to vote who reside or stay temporarily abroad can vote at any polling station organized abroad, based on a Romanian identity document valid on the day of the voting. It is about: the identity card; electronic identity card, provisional identity card; identity paper; ordinary passport; electronic ordinary passport; temporary ordinary passport; diplomatic passport; electronic diplomatic passport; service passport; electronic service passport; military service card in the case of pupils from military schools.

„The voting based on travel document is not allowed at the elections for the European Parliament due on 9 June 2024. At the same time, to be able to vote, the identify act must be in validity term and the vote with an expired document is not possible,’’ the Embassy of Romania in Chisinau informed.

The voting started at 7:00 and will end at 22:00, local time. The voters who are at the headquarters of the polling station at 22:00, as well as those who are in que at the polling station, in order to enter the voting room, can exercise their right to vote till 23:59, local time, under the law.

The European parliamentary elections take place on 6-9 June, with 720 European lawmakers due to be elected at these polls in all. The ballot is held once in five years. Thirty six polling stations were opened in Moldova at the European parliamentary elections from 2019.
