Moldovan speaker meets PACE co-rapporteurs

Chisinau, Feb. 6 /MOLDPRES/- Speaker Igor Grosu had a meeting with co-rapporteurs of Monitoring Committee of Parliamentary Assembly of Council of Europe (PACE) Pierre-Alain Fridez and Zanda Kalniņa-Lukaševica, who are on a fact-collecting visit to Moldova, the parliament's communication and public relations department has reported.
The main issue was the current situation in judiciary system. Grosu said that our country is in the midst of evaluating the integrity of judges and prosecutors, as well as evaluating candidates for the position of attorney general. “It is a difficult process that takes time, but we are determined to see it through. The reform of justice and cleaning the judicial system of the corrupt continue to be the zero priority of the legislature", he said.
The officials also approached the fight against disinformation and how important it is to strengthen the state's capabilities to become more resilient. They exchanged opinions on the actions of the Chisinau authorities in the European integration process. "Together with the new minister for European integration, with colleagues from the Foreign Policy and European Integration Commission and with the 35 sectoral working groups, we will work side by side to prepare the Republic of Moldova for accession to the European Union and the promotion of draft laws for adjusting the national legislation to the EU legislation", he said.
The co-rapporteurs also had separate discussions with MPs of the parliamentary majority and the opposition, as well as with the delegation of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova to PACE.
