9 localities hold new local elections today

Chisinau, May 19 /MOLDPRES/- New local elections are being held today in 9 localities across the country. The Central Electoral Commission (CEC) announced that the voting process is proceeding normally.

At 07:00 all 13 polling stations were open. A total of 10,765 voters are registered on the basic electoral rolls.

According to the CEC, by 09:00 a.m., 414 voters or 3.8% of those expected at the polls had exercised their right to vote.

The most active voters were in Hanasenii Noi, Leova district and the town of Bucovat, Straseni district, where turnout was 6.47% and 5.41% respectively.

Voters who cannot go to the polling station can request a mobile ballot box at home until 14:00. A medical certificate must accompany the request.

Voting will close at 21:00.

New local elections are taking place today for a new composition of local councils in the localities of Cairaclia and Salcia, Taraclia district, Chioselia Rusa and Cotovscoe, Gagauzia and for the position of mayor - in Tîrnova, Dondușeni district, the town of Bucovăț, Strășeni district, the village of Sagaidac, Cimislia district and Hănăsenii Noi, Leova district.
